WHAT IS STEM?
STEM education is an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning that provides hands-on and relevant learning experiences for students. STEM teaching and learning goes beyond the mere transfer of knowledge. It engages students and equips them with critical thinking, problem solving, creative and collaborative skills, and ultimately establishes connections between the school, work place, community and the global economy. STEM also helps students understand and apply math and science content, the foundations for success in college and careers.
This strand is designed for students who desire to pursue college degrees centered on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This strand provides preparation for students in using science, math, engineering, and technology to solve real-life problems and advance national development.
WHY STEM?
“Education at all levels in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics—STEM—develops, preserves, and disseminates knowledge and skills that convey personal, economic, and social benefits. Higher education provides the advanced work skills needed in an increasingly knowledge-intensive, innovation-focused economy and society.”
– National Science Foundation
“We must never forget what the STEM subjects have in common with sister disciplines like literature and history. Yes, they help us get good jobs, but they also help us grasp what it means to be human and live a good life. That is why STEM is truly among the liberal arts.”
– Linda Rosen, Change the Equation
Why is STEM important?
STEM is important because it teaches critical thinking skills and instills a passion for innovation. Beyond the benefit of learning science, technology, engineering, and math, STEM assists in the problem-solving and exploratory learning that fuel success across a variety of tasks and disciplines.
STEM gives curious students the skills to tackle problems confidently and facilitates a more positive feeling about learning, greater self-confidence in students, and diffuses negative biases that contribute to the growth of individuals who are curious, confident and take the initiative when dealing with challenges.
Skills gained from STEM education include:
•Complex Problem-solving
•Critical thinking
•Reasoning
•Creativity
•Teamwork
•Self-confidence
Is STEM really the best career choice?

The truth is that STEM encompasses the most engaging, hands-on subjects in our schools. Strong STEM skills lead to more beautiful art, more engrossing performances, and more polished productions.
STEM classes develop those soft skills that so many careers need, and so many students lack – skills like communication, problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, and data analysis.
STEM education gives people skills that make them more employable and ready to meet the current labor demand. It encompasses the whole range of experiences and skills. Each STEM component brings a valuable contribution to a well-rounded education. Science gives learners an in-depth understanding of the world around us.
In fact, non-STEM fields heavily recruit graduates with STEM degrees because they possess these skills that students from other majors have not developed

Why Choose the STEM strand?
1. Set Up for Success
Choosing the STEM track opens the door to many possibilities for successful and fruitful careers especially after pursuing further education. Secure highly respected professions in competitive industries by choosing STEM as your track. Equipped with three strands to choose from, the STEM track presents you with opportunities to specialize in:
• Earth Science
Are you interested in unique earth phenomenon like meteorology, continental drifts, and the evidences of evolution like fossils? Or perhaps you have always dreamed of becoming a scientist? The Earth Science track equips students with skills to understand natural phenomenon, disaster vulnerability, the interpretation of hydrometeorological tools. Open doors for careers in science with Earth Science!
• Pre-Calculus and Basic Calculus
Have you always been a math wiz? Do numbers and equations excite you? Or maybe you see them as the means to computing for solutions, trajectories, and more! With Pre-Calculus, students can be equipped to become great economists, mathematicians, analysts, and engineers, that could solve problems and break boundaries in technology and economics.
• Physics
Curious about how the forces of motion work? The Physics track of the STEM strand will prepare students to understand kinematics, momentum, and impulse, as well as the effects of oscillation, thermodynamics, and gravity. Be one of the great minds behind aerodynamic builds and vehicles as an engineer, scientist, and more!
Regardless of the track you choose among the three, one of the biggest advantages of the STEM strand rests in its capacity to set up students for success by preparing them for some of the most demanding yet fulfilling careers in society.
2. The Lifeblood of the Nation
Typically preparing senior high students for future studies and rigorous examinations to practice their profession, STEM graduates are essential to growing some of the most sought-after and in-demand industries. Graduates of the STEM strand and their various tracks are involved in integral industries that keep the nation going. By undertaking their courses, students acquire unique skill sets that equip them to be the doctors, engineers, economists and scientists of tomorrow.
3. Job Opportunities Nationwide and Abroad
One of the benefits of STEM strand graduates is the diversity in job opportunities. Careers in STEM industries are always in-demand. Whether in the Philippines or abroad, Filipino professionals play an important part in the workforce. Doctors, surgeons, engineers, economists and scientists are only some of the many career paths open to STEM graduates—jobs that allow communities around the world to enjoy safety, health, and quality of life as they k
WHY DID I CHOOSE STEM? DO I HAVE ANY REGRETS?
I had many choices but i choose this Strand SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS because i felt that it’s for me the first step of hardships in my journey, i know in myself that this will help and lead me towards my dream and become what i want to be in the future even this is not definitely easy as what you think.I see it’s appropriate in my desire course although this one is absolutely hard, yes being a stem student is not easy it’s not just a simply studying i faced a lot of difficulties especially in mathematics from specialized subjects,i am not really good in mathematics but i survived i did my best to learn everything from my chosen strand because of determination, study hard and learning hard, time management and putting first my priorities. When i choose this strand i think of it many times if it’s good or suitable for me but because of self esteem then motivated by a teacher who asked me before if what strand i’m going to take in senior high she told me to choose Stem because of its advantages and benefits in my college life.Well all strand are good and difficult but my heart wants stem thus i took it,I like science because of its beauty and mystery. Also my dream job is in stem field then i want to challenge myself and prepare me to next chapter of my journey. Yes at first i regret it because of struggles i thought that i can’t but by cause of perseverance and working hard i liked it. For me this strand will help you in advancements, gain knowledge about science, teach you in deep mathematics, discover and explore the technology, and let you learn anything and everything if you focus on your goal and appreciate the real Stem.Stem is challenging yet interesting,It depends on you on how you’ll see and handle it. Perseverance and study hard with faith and time management are the keys to drive it well.To all incoming senior high school students think wisely follow your heart but i encourage you to choose or take this strand but it’s up to you your choice matters.
